Spring Cleaning

Like it or not it's that time of year again for - Spring Cleaning!

When is the last time you've cleaned behind your refrigerator? How long has it been since you've scrubbed your driveway?  Shampooed your rugs? Resealed your grout lines?

Well according to Martha Stewart these are things that we all should be doing every year! (yeah ok Martha!)
While the list provided here is no doubt more extensive then any of us mere mortals can manage, it does offer a good guideline that we can follow.

On that note we thought we'd put together some of the tips that we've found that might slip our minds during our annual spring cleaning marathon

Change Batteries

Don't wait until your smoke detector or carbon monoxide alarms start beeping - we should all change these batteries every 6 months
You can use daylight savings time as a guideline to help you remember!

Clean out and Thaw your freezers

Go through that deep freezer in your basement, or look in the way back of your kitchen freezer.  There's bound to be some un-labled something or others whose time has come.  Once you clear out the outdated, your deep freezers should be thawed out in order to keep them in the best working order.

 The Ol' Switcheroo

When the seasons change we have a perfect opportunity to  clean out our closets, but if your like me that's no easy task!
I always think "Oh I'll wear that again" or "You never know when I'll need this shirt."
Well, this tip is the solution.
At the beginning of Spring turn all of the hangers in your closet around.  As you wear an item, put it back in the closet with the hanger facing the right direction.
By Fall it will be clear to you what items you really love, and which ones are just taking up precious closet space!

Lemon Ice Cubes
If you have a garbage disposal, then you've probably experienced that unpleasant order that creeps up once in a while -
These lemon ice cubes by One Good Thing By Jillee are the perfect way to freshen up your garbage disposal all year long!

Dishwasher
You may think that since the dishes coming out of your dishwasher are sparkling clean, that your dishwasher must be clean too. Makes sense right? Wrong.

Dishwashers need to be cleaned regularly to avoid problems with odor that can be caused by tiny bits of food, grease and soap scum that have been left behind.

In addition to scrubbing the inside of your machine there are also a few natural remedies.

Place a cup filled with white vinegar on the top rack of your empty dishwasher
and run on hot.

You can also sprinkle baking soda around the bottom of the machine
and run on a short, hot cycle.
